New preliminary flood hazard maps, known as Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs), have been released for Chatham County, Georgia. Developed in collaboration with Chatham County and other local communities, these maps were created by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) under the Department of Natural Resources and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The maps utilize the latest digital mapping technology and the most accurate data available.
These updated maps provide a detailed, property-specific view of flood risk across the county, showing areas currently at risk for flooding. As flood risks can change over time, the updated maps reflect areas where flood risk may increase, decrease, or remain the same. Changes in flood risk can also affect flood insurance requirements and costs.
