DATE OF MINOR DISCHARGE: Wednesday, December 16, 2020

REPORT SUBMITTED: Thursday, December 17, 2020

LOCATION OF MINOR DISCHARGE: Ditch in the area of 6 AJ Garcia Rd close to the intersection of Pine Barren Rd. (32.098359, -81.234121)

CAUSE OF DISCHARGE: The cause of the discharge was a blocked sewer line.

ESTIMATED DISCHARGE: Estimated less than 5000 gallons.

RECEIVING WATERS: Drainage canal contiguous to the City’s storm water system.

CORRECTIVE ACTION TAKEN: Blockage was removed and Stormwater removed from the area and returned to sewer collection system for treatment. The affected
area was neutralized with calcium hydroxide.

SPILL STATUS: Sewage is no longer leaking

CORRECTIVE ACTION TAKEN TO PREVENT FUTURE DISCHARGE: Cleaning of debris that was blocking the line.

Unfortunately, due to COVID, the City of Pooler had to cancel our annual Christmas Tree lighting. We were very lucky and have been able to schedule time for Santa Claus to visit our neighborhoods. In order to keep Santa and our firefighters safe, we will not be able to get out and visit, but we will wave and wish you a MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Please see below for Santa’s schedule. If we have inclement weather, we will try to reschedule everyone before Christmas. We will post reschedule time as needed.

Atlantic Waste 11/26 Thanksgiving

Sanitation services will not run on Thursday, November 26, 2020 for the Thanksgiving holiday. They will run one day behind for Thursday and Friday residential customers. If your normal day is Thursday it will be picked up on Friday and if your normal day is Friday it will be picked up on Saturday.

Voting for November 2020 Election

The Board of Registrars and Board of Elections are in charge of VOTING, including, but not limited to: poll workers and machines.

The City of Pooler only offers sites. The EARLY VOTING site in Pooler is the Gym off of S. Rogers Street through October 30th, 2020. The time and days are Monday through Friday 10 am until 4 pm.  

AN ABSENTEE DROP OFF BALLOT BOX is located in the public parking lot on the Eastside of Pooler City Hall. The area has good lighting and has 24 hour surveillance.

EFFECTIVE OCTOBER 1ST, THE DROP BOX AT 1095 S. ROGERS STREET WILL BE MOVED TO THE EAST END OF THE CITY HALL PARKING LOT LOCATED AT 100 US HWY 80 SW.

LOCATION OF MINOR DISCHARGE: Manhole in the area of S. Godley Station Blvd.
in front of the Woodspring Suites at approximately 32.133515, -81.258473.

CAUSE OF DISCHARGE: The cause of the discharge was a cracked sewer force
main.

ESTIMATED DISCHARGE: Estimated less than 9000 gallons.

RECEIVING WATERS: Drainage inlet contiguous to the City’s storm water system.

CORRECTIVE ACTION TAKEN: Broken section of pipe was replaced and debris and
Stormwater removed from the area and returned to sewer collection system for
treatment. The affected area was neutralized with calcium hydroxide.

SPILL STATUS: Sewage is no longer leaking

CORRECTIVE ACTION TAKEN TO PREVENT FUTURE DISCHARGE: New force
main install in progress.

MAJOR WASTEWATER DISCHARGE REPORTED TO EPD

DATE OF MAJOR SPILL: Tuesday, September 1, 2020

REPORT SUBMITTED: Wednesday, September 2, 2020

LOCATION OF MAJOR SPILL: Broken sewer pipe at the I-16 interchange at Pooler Parkway (32.083343, -81.281144). (Please note that the address used is a reference for the location of the sewer pipe.)

CAUSE OF MAJOR DISCHARGE: The cause of this major discharge was damage to a sewer pipe due to heavy machinery performing nearby land clearing.

ESTIMATED VOLUME DISCHARGED: Estimated less than 48,000 gallons

RECEIVING WATERS: Drainage ditch contiguous to municipal stormwater sewer system.

CORRECTIVE ACTION TAKEN TO MITIGATE OR REDUCE ADVERSE EFFECTS: Pipe Repaired. Wastewater contained in low lying work area. Wastewater removed from the area with vacuum truck and the affected area was neutralized with hydrated lime.

SPILL STATUS: Wastewater is no longer escaping.
